Second pair on paired/suited board against nutjob
UB 3/6. I'm dealt 88 in MP. Guy who raises 30-40% of hands preflop (G) and goes too far with said hands, raises. I three-bet to get it heads-up and it doesn't work as the SB calls $8 cold in addition to G.
Flop - Ts 2s 2h G checks, I bet, SB folds, G checkraises, I re-raise, G calls. Turn - 6c Check, bet, call. River - Qd Check, check. Comments? Results and comments below: Results - G shows pocket 4's and I take it down. Comments - I think I played this hand well with the possible exception of the river. I'm not sure if I should have bet or not. I didn't want to get checkraised because I would have had to pay it off against this opponent. -- Homer |

Re: Second pair on paired/suited board against nutjob
I don't know, Homer, after the SB folds, I just usually call these maniacs down. Isn't this a situation where neither of you is going to fold? And it's pretty much impossible to put him on a hand, right?
Let him keep betting, then pop him back on the river if you catch your set somewhere. |

Re: Second pair on paired/suited board against nutjob
Since you say this guy won't let go of a hand, it is reasonable to assume he could have overcards, a 10, or a queen. I think you played it well the whole way through. How much money can one expect to win with unimproved pocket 8's anyway?
