I think I play it the same against this player. You will see AJ and AQ often enough to make this worth it IMO.

I don't cap preflop.
The way you played it you can make a crying call on the river and hope he has AQ/AJ. |

This a blind battle, and usually the one who made the last raise preflop will feel obliged to bet all the way if an A hits the board. This way you can earn more money postflop I think.
On the other hand if you don't improve, you won't able to fold out a pair even if you cap preflop. I might cap AKs ofr value though. |
