Keeping track of pot size
How do people keep track of how much money is in the pot? I'm usually so occupied with putting players on hands and keeping track of live cards that I only know if a pot is small or large. Calculating accurate pot odds would be a major improvement to my game - as I've been playing more $5/10, it shouldn't be that hard. Any tips?

Hello,Mac! If u play at a B&M,then...
u can note how much is cut from the pot at any point.
If there is a 10% rake, and u see 3.00 taken out,the pot is about 30.00 at that point. If there is a cap of 4.00,then the pot is at least 40.00. However, beyond that pot size,I have no particular system--except to approximate the size by the # of players that are still active. If there are a total of 3 active players, then increase by 10+10+10---with two active players total, increase by 10+10.Etc. For Online play, I HAVE NO IDEA! Re: Hello,Mac! If u play at a B&M,then...
online, you get to look at a number under the chip that changes as bets are put in. . .although sometimes you have to actually place the cursor over the chips before it tells you, sigh. . . .

Thanks, Bull, I often...
take easy problems and turn them into big ones - didn't consider looking at the raked chips. Online it couldn't be easier, just mouseover the pot.

Re: Keeping track of pot size
much easier in a fixed-limit game. just count the bets as they go in. that way you instantly know your pot odds when it gets back to you.f6
when the bet size increases, cut the count in half and then keep counting. you're playing stud, so you have to remember to add the antes on, but usually those add up to between 1/2 and 1 bet. don't forget the bringins, too. |
