Default moving up limits

does anyone have some good suggestions for deciding when to move up in stakes in limit and no limit hold 'em?

I always moved up when i tilted, when i lost a lot, i went down again, when i won, i stayed at that higher table.
I definitly do not advise you to do the same, its for sure the worst timing to move up.
(notice that these lines are stated in the past)
