Played fishy, lost stack, same old story.....how long to come back?
I'm not really sure if I want to start playing again at this point, but I know following the big one is going to make me consider giving it another go.
Here is the question before I start getting berated, "Has anyone out there with a history of going broke 3 or 4 times from 1K stacks or better ever found a way to put it all together and keep it together?" I love the game of poker, but I just don't want to keep going up and down quite so much! Is there a remedy, or am I just going to have to realize I don't have what it takes? No offense fellow zoo pals, but I just don't want to keep building my stack only to give it all to you! |

Here's a thought. Learn to play better. [/ QUOTE ] Great advice, thanks...I'll take that one into consideration. No wonder there are so many people with 5K posts on here. |

It's not bad advice. Good players don't make posts like this.

I lost almost 6k before I became a modest winning midlimit player off of a "final" $200 deposit last year. It all clicked. Spend more time in the strategy forums/reading/ and only play one table at a time.

Don't play fishy. If you're playing for the thrill of gambling, and can't resist putting money in the pot with the worst of it, or playing above your bankroll, you're going to lose money. If you want to win over the long haul, you have to learn how to play winning poker, and actually play that way. If you can't do this, only you can decide if you're getting your money's worth in entertainment. Personally, I think winning is a lot more fun than losing.

What limits were you playing? If it was poor play that made you go bust, then you need to spend time studying the game. But if you were playing higher stakes than you were bankrolled for, then you could try it again. Just make sure you understand bankroll management first. There's really no excuse for a player to go broke if you are a winning player in the long-run AND you make sure you are properly bankrolled for the limits you are playing.

only play one table at a time. [/ QUOTE ] When I was starting out, I found that playing two tables actually helped, because I was less tempted to play marginal (or worse) hands out of boredom. I wouldn't reccomend more than two until you become a consistent winner on two tables, though. |
