Greektown $100 max
After reading some previous posts about the $100 max NL game at Greektown (1/2 blinds w/ a $6 1/2 hour charge) can this game be profitable? Is the play really that bad? Worth my time?

Re: Greektown $100 max
Yes, Yes, Yes. I played for like 20 minutes before getting my seat in the 2/5 game. Obviously you'd prefer to sit in the 2/5 game, no max buy and the players are bad, not as bad as the 1/2 but still bad. As for the 1/2 there isn't much room to maneuver when you first buy since playing one hand and the time charges cut your stack in half. I try to find some schmuck to coin flip with me. or I try and get all the money in on the flop with an overpair or TPTK, this allows me to double up and give me more room as people that have been there for a while will have a stack. I would basically go through 100s taking coinflips with people and playing uber tight until you double up. Then you can open up your game. It's a lot of work for a 1/2 game. Buy in short to the 2/5 and bully. People will pick on you just because you are a short stack, so if you play tight and get a lot of your money in preflop on a 60/40 or 70/30 shot, you can take it from there..

Re: Greektown $100 max
Yikes I doubt I would feel comfortable playing 2/5 w/ a stack of $500 at this point. However, doubling up a few times at 1/2 would calm my azz down. How many times did you reload? Should I take 4 or 5 buyins and treat it like 6max? This may be a dumb question as I've never played w/ a time charge, but can you pay out of pocket for the charge and not out of your stack?

Re: Greektown $100 max
I hate these games. They used to have four 5-10 tables, but now they only have two because of all these 1-2 NL tables multiplying like Gremlins. Now I have to wait like two hours to get a 5-10 seat.
I am currently beating the Greektown 5-10 for $12/hour. Should I switch over to 1-2 NL? Would my expectation there be greater than 5-10? If someone knows the answer to my dilemma I will be much obliged. And I will dance at your wedding. |

Re: Greektown $100 max
I love the game. I usually go with 2-3 buy-ins, and see how it works.
The only thing I don't like about the game is the time charge. For the bigger game (which I have never played in) I have heard the charge is $8/half hour. The baby NL game is $6, which if you compare to the average stack size is a significant amount. I wish they would just rake the games like they do in Vegas. Re: Greektown $100 max
$6 per half hour is [censored] insane in a game that small. I payed that much in a game 5 times that size.

Re: Greektown $100 max
You can pay out of your pocket i believe, it's a good idea too, since some people will start to do it if they see you do it, this is good as it leaves more money on the table for you. As for the 2/5 game, you'd be suprised but only late night and weekends does it play deep, a lot of the time it isn't that deep so you could take a shot. No harm in taking a shot. That's how I started, I took a shot and got stupid lucky, it gave me the confidence to play a few more times until my roll grew to what it should be to play in that game regularly.

Re: Greektown $100 max
The $50/$100 game is the only one with a time charge. The bigger games are raked.

Re: Greektown $100 max
Uhh I don't know what casino you are playing in, but the ugly gross looking one in Detroit michigan, called Greektown Casino definitely has at time charge in the higher games. Still lots of money to be won though.
