Hey Ralph,
I assume you were trying to check-raise the Flop and the villian with KK didn't help you out, right? He probably put you on QQ after your Flop check, and came out firing on the Turn. All in all, well played. Cheers, Rick |

Why didn't you bet this flop?

I think I see why you did this...I assume it was to make the gutters pay two on the turn to draw...the problem is that BB might not bet the turn especially with AK which I assume is what you want. What do you do if someone behind you bets the flop? I suppose you could checkraise which also might have been what you were planning on doing although I hope you were going for the turn play.
Also what is your plan if it's checked through and the turn is an 8 or a 9? I would have just bet the flop, a play like this heavily complicates things and makes your hand a little rough to play on subsequent streets...also if you bet people will probably call with hands that need two running cards to win, these hands are getting close to the odds to call so make those people pay. |

I understand the strategy, but I couldn't resist betting the flop if KK is going to check to me (thinking he might try to c/r so I could 3bet).
That being said, the pot is quite large and if you're quite certain BB will bet the turn, this plan has sound strategy to it. People will complain that you'll give an 8 or a 9 a free card, but an 8 or a 9 isn't going to fold anyways, so might as well charge them more for trying to gutshot on the turn. |

Okay, I can understand the delay so that you can protect your hand. That is reasonable. But with only 3 opponents, I would probably still bet. BB will likely raise you with an over pair, and then you still might get to force the field to call 2 bb on turn. When I first saw the hand, I really thought you whiffed on a c/r, and I was thinking, wtf? --Rico |
