Default Elizabeth Smart one of 50 Most Beautiful

story

You can debate her inclusion, but the disturbing part of the story for me:

[ QUOTE ]
Elizabeth was abducted from her bedroom in June 2002. Nine months later, she was found on a suburban street with a transient couple who were charged with kidnapping her. The legal case against Brian David Mitchell and Wanda Barzee is still pending.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's been two years and the case is still pending? I know our legal system is slow, but this was a high profile case. They haven't gone to trial in two years?

First of all, putting her on any list that draws more attention to her plight makes the list publisher a world-class douchebag. Maybe the "50 most shutup and leave her alone" list, but that's about it.

Secondly, why are her parents not in prison? Nevermind trying the obviously-fried, brain-challenged couple of freaks who grabbed her. Why has nobody charged her parents with a crime for violating their daughter by pimping her story to the highest bidders? Their pictures should be on a post office wall in Mexico.

This is harsh, but I do think her parents are at least partly to blaim for what happened to her, and how she reacted to the situation.

how are they to blame for what happened?

I agree pimping out her story is a little off but here you are blaming her parents for her getting raped.

no no no. what happened to her was a terrible thing, and in no way do I think her parents or her are wholly to blaim.

In general, I just don't like children being raised 'ultra-religious', like she was. I think it gives people a warped world view, and perhaps made it easier for her to be brainwashed like she was.

"how are they to blame for what happened?"
************************************************
They made a habit of hiring homeless people to work on their home. The future kidnappers were people they have hired previously. Obviously, 100% of the fault lies with the kidnappers.....but.....perhaps if they hired normal people to work on their house they would have avoided the whole situation.
