MP3's stats: VP$IP: 15.6 PFR: 6.8. He raises with AQ and AK preflop.
UTG is loose and passive. Comments on each street appreciated. Results and my thoughts later. What did UTG and MP3 have? I have a hard time playing against people who won't finish off their agression here.
If you're willing to 3-bet the turn, why not the river? I think your play is fine, I'm unsure as to what I'd do here. |

I can't argue with how you played it. If MP3 would have capped the turn then you could check/call the river but he just called the 3 bet so leading the river seems good.
On the river I'd be very worried about MP3. He seems to either have flopped a set or to have a weaker A than you but even if he does have a weaker A than you he still easily beats you as there is a T, 9, and 7 on the board. Being that he backed off on the turn and then raised you again on the river he seems like he had AT. |

MP3 had A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] and HHIG.
UTG had 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Presto no g00t! My play on the turn was pretty much based on my Pokertracker-inspired read that he didn't have me outkicked. I suppose he would have played A9, A7, 99, or 77 the same way, but I thought it was much more likely he'd have Ax where x<J, and against those 4 hands I have 3, 6, 7, and 7 outs, respectively. If he capped the turn, I would have just check-called the river unless I filled up. The presence of UTG also made the turn decision to 3-bet a lot easier, since I'm getting twice as much money on my 3-bet (assuming he'd call, which I thought he probably would.) Comments? |

Looks good to me. A tight, reasonably aggressive opponent would probably have capped the flop with Aces up and would have certainly capped the turn with Aces full. However he would probably also play a worse Ace just as he did. So I lead the river and call the raise expecting to see exactly AT. Well played.

when he 3-bets the turn, he's representing a very strong hand. for him to get raised on the river, he must be up against a very big hand. 3-betting the river would be terrible here.

You're applying reasoning to players who don't often exhibt it.
I've found that when I'm getting this kind of stop and go action, where somebody refuses to finish off their agression, if's been most often from a sub-standard hand. Like trips with a bad kicker. That said, I think given his reads, AT is a pretty reasonable holding to put him on. |
