If your going to play on the boats for any time, remember to always keep a rack of red around. Otherwise it may take you the better part of half a day to buy into a game.

Missouri sate law proscribes maximum limits on chip purchases. Used to be $500 ever two to four hours, odd hours and even hours come into play ocassionally. Tis better to just kepp $500 or more in chips available unless you are playing at the lowest limits.

Exit the airport, get on the freeway, head west. Can't miss.

Or it worked for me at least.

Welcome to the Gateway to the West. Well, it used to be

I live about 80 miles away and drive down to play in a couple of live private tournaments that run weekly and then a bigger one every couple months so PM me when you get here and I can hook you up. Buy ins are reasonable and the format is pretty decent.

There are two boats that have poker rooms in the St. Louis area. The President on the Mississippi is downtown just steps away from Leclede's Landing where you will find yourself on Fridays and Saturdays if nice looking women, good food, and cheap beer are of interest to you at all. The room at the President is small but I have heard they are expanding.

The other room is at the Ameristar on the Missouri River in St. Charles. It is about 5 miles from the airport and is easy to get to. Just go west on I-70 and get off at the first exit after the river. Turn right and your there. The room is quite a bit larger and spreads games from 1-5 and 2-10 stud 3-6, 6-12, 10--20, and 20-40 HE. They also usually have a couple of Omaha games going, not sure of the limits.

Hope this little bit of info helps. Good luck in school and remember...good food = Jake's Steaks.

I hope you enjoy Wash U. I graduated there with a B.S in Chemical Engineering and a minor in business.

Just to let you know, if you are not 21, you will not get into the casino. There are only 1 or 2 entrances into each casino and they card everyone that looks under 30 and are very strict about it.

Now, assumming you are 21, the casinos are very easy to get to from Washington University. You will head East on Highway 40 to the last Missouri Exit and follow the signs to the President casino. You can also take the Metrolink from the nearby Debaliviere Station. It lets out 2 blocks away from the President Casino.

If you are heading to the Ameristar, you will go West Bound on Highway 40 to Interstate 170. Head North Bound on it until you get to Interstate 70. From there, go West Bound on Interstate 70 until you cross the Missouri River - the Ameristar will be on your right. You cannot miss it. You will exit on 5th Street.

In July, Harrahs will be opening their poker room. It's close to the Ameristar. Go the same way as if you are going to the Ameristar, but Exit onto the Earth City Expressway. That will take you right to Harrahs.

Most of my friends still in the Wash U Med School go to the President because it is so close. You are looking at a 10 to 15 minute drive versus as 20 to 30 minute drive to hit the Ameristar or Harrahs.

Update. The WPT has really invaded the St. Louis poker scene. I played at the Ameristar 3-6 HE on Sat. I got there about Noon and had a 2 hour wait for a seat. They have completely stopped spreading any stud at all. They had the following games.

3-6 HE 4 tables when I got there and opened a 5th
6-12 HE 3 tables
10-20 HE 2 tables
20-40 HE 1 table

They also had a couple of red chip Omaha tables but I didn't catch the limits.

The place was absolutely packed. Make sure you note the players ahead of you on the list. There are a few floorpersons that will squeeze a regular in ahead and you need to pay attention.

Game play. As I said, the WPT has really taken hold. I was at a 3-6 table that was a mix of a couple of people that I had played before that I usually had considered rocks, a couple of young players one of which had never played before, and the requisite older player or two who would see every flop but fold if they didn't hit (I love those).

Every flop had at least 4 people still in. I made a minimal buy in of $100, played for 2 1/2 hours and left with just over $225 just by playing reasonable but not always outstanding cards. One hand stands out in particular.

I was in the BB and look down to find A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 4 callers and the SB completes. I raise and all call. Flop comes A 5 8 rainbow. SB checks, I bet, all call. Turn brings the Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] giving me top two and putting 2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] on the board. SB BETS!...I am thinking that there is no way that he hit a set as he would have raised both pre and post flop, so I raise. One player drops out and the rest all call. River is the A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] SB checks, I bet out and only one other player drops. Showdown...

SB shows J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] T [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] nada
I show my Full house
Next player doesn't show
Next player shows (no, I don't know why) his 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

I pull down a nice pot.

The game was like that all afternoon. I had a tournament that evening but really didn't want to leave. I ended up busting out of the tournament in the middle of the pack and really debated going back but knew the wait list would be huge as the Cardinal vs Cubs game had just finished.
