Default Really easy computer question

I am retarded...
But how do you restar in safe mode? XP is telling me that I go to restart and then select Operating System and press F8...

BUT, I have a compaq laptop and when I click restart, it just shuts down. What am I missing here? How do I restart in safe mode? I suck.

I think you just have to hit F8 as it is rebooting.

Umm, ya it does. You gotta keep jamming on it the whole time its rebooting. There should even be a little thing at one point that says F8 for safe mode, but just continuos jamming works too.

or, you could:

1) go to the start menu
2) click "Run"
3) type "msconfig" in the box
4) click the "BOOT.INI" tab
5) check the "/SAFEBOOT" checkbox
6) restart

You are not retarted. Your computer is retarted. That's what you get for buying a Compaq. Take it as a lesson and don't do it again.

My suggestion is to make a DOS bootup disk, start your computer up in DOS, and then enter windows safemode from DOS.
