Two people died yesterday
Well, obviously a lot more than two, but the two I had in mind were Edward Teller and Leni Riefenstahl.
So yesterday wasn't all that bad. |

Re: Two people died yesterday
Edward Teller was a brillant Physicist. He has been (or was) one of the most dominant and influential scientists in America for the last 60 years, and influenced many US Presidents on defense issues. He came to America from Hungary before WWII and became a US citizen. Teller was educated in Germany. He was partly responsible for destroying the career of Robert Oppenheimer during the "Red Scare". I could go on and on, as there is much more to this complex man. He was a very interesting and forceful character. I am sure many articles are or will be written about his legacy now that he is in Heaven, sitting on the right hand of God.
The second person is unknown to me. Zeno PS. Just read Tom's links, I now understand. |

Farewell to the 20th century
Riefenstahl's "Triumph Of The Will" is still powerful, whether you consider it to be blatant propaganda or cinema-verite.
Her picture book abt the time when she was scuba diving around the Nubians is good, too. A lover of the body beautiful to the very end! Even in the 90s (her 90s!) she was still a most sexual person. |

Edward Teller was a one-footed Hungarian physicist who inspired...
...development of the H bomb, because the Russians would develope it wheither we did or not, and that would be very bad for us. I have to agree.
Leni was a German cinematographer who made an inspiring propaganda film for the Nazis. Her political feelings are unknown to me. |

Re: Farewell to the 20th century
I saw highlights from "Triumph of the Will" on TV last night. Great filmmaking, to be sure. I imagine her picture book of scuba diving is quite nice too.
But I have bigger issues with her. |

"Her political feelings are unknown to me."
She was an admitted admirer of Hitler. |

Re: Two people died yesterday
If I recall a lot of the footage from Triumph Of The Will was used in an American film called "Why we Fight" a great piece of anti Nazi propaganda.
Wasn't Leni banging Goebbals? |
