How Did You Stay Motivated In College
College has always been a hard thing for me.
I'm a very practical person, so I need things to relate. I go to a liberal arts college (mind I do think liberal arts is good) and I often find it hard to stay motivated to study or care much about stuff I can't see myself using or even something that I think makes me a better person for knowing. I'm just not into organized learned in our educational system. I think when I ran my own eBay business sophomore year I was able to learn a lot of things about dealing with vendors, looking at pricing and why it was the way it was, supply demand, customer patterns, etc. Yet I went on to barely pass my Philosophy course that I needed to fill a general requirement. I really enjoy stats but hate calculus due to the fact I don't see when I will have to derive, integrate, or do the proofs. Do I really need this for Computer Science Major? Any hard math we just find how it's done and program it in, not really needing to know how to do it ourselves. So, how did/do you stay motivated? From, A senior trying to make it |

Re: How Did You Stay Motivated In College
I was doing hard labor since I was 12.
Corn detasseling, Moving company, Roofing, landscaping, etc. When I worked at a moving company most of the older employees were missing enamel on their teeth. It was good money, but it was hard work that was hard on your body, and there were alot of scum that worked there. I couldn't stand it. The thought of doing that for the rest of my life was motivation enough. Also, my friends that didn't go to college all hate their jobs. All that they talk about is how they just want to quit. I love my job. That is one of the biggest perks you can get. |

[ QUOTE ]
I paid for it myself. Jimbo [/ QUOTE ] I paid for my own college as well. However, I rarely went to class. I hated going to class. I did study a lot. I would do all the reading instead of catching an outline or lecture. Anyway, I was motivated to do well, because why bother otherwise? Nobody is forcing you to be there ... if you can't get up for it, find something else. To a certain extent, I believe you owe it to the "last guy" who did not get into your school, to nut up and put your nose in the books. |
