If my memory serves me correctly Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid had similiar misfortune in Bolivia.

Re: American Influence in Bolivia
As early as the 1950s, the U.S. was supplying 40% of Bolivi'as national budget. It should come as no surprise that we still have influence there a half century later, despite the somewhat inhospitable treatment afford Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid a while back (still one of my favorite movies).

Re: American Influence in Bolivia
The national debt, or what they owe internationally? Not that it matters, no chance of either ever getting paid.

Re: American Influence in Bolivia
well i think its the same thing for these latin american countries
but i read something recently where he had talked about just defaulting to the foreign banks before he got elected. of course if he tries to do that im sure hell end up dead, but (i think the author of the article was editorializing, not sure) if he does then other countries will follow suit and i think the author even said that russia (putin) said they would have no choice but to follow suit or whatever if that happened. but like i said i doubt he would live long enough to implement something like that. brad p.s. you saw where i posted where greg palast(english nightline basically) posted all that leaked imf stuff from stiglitz (guy who won nobel in economics) where the imf deliberately destroys countries. |
