Default common situation. do you pay?

Villian is your normal SH calling station.

Party Poker 5/10 Hold'em (6 max, 5 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is Button with T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
1 fold, MP calls, Hero raises, 1 fold, BB calls, MP calls.

Flop: (6.40 SB) 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 players)
BB checks, MP bets, Hero raises, BB folds, MP calls.

Turn: (5.20 BB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
MP checks, Hero bets, MP calls.

River: (7.20 BB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
MP checks, Hero bets, MP raises, Hero...

Final Pot: 11.20 BB

How often do you really think your ahead here? I find myself in these c/r river situations all the time, and i usually pay...just wondering if i should.

Without a read, I would normally fold.

i am not a huge fan of folding to river check raises (i should fold more though) but this is a spot where a fold seems wise. its when the donk check raises total blanks out of nowhere when i have a hard time letting go.

Isn't the answer in your characterization of the villain? A typical "calling station" is not raising the river without a better hand than you, I think.

I really thought about this hand, worked out what you are ahead of and what would be a reasonable for someone in middle position.

I think that middle suited connectors, AX - giving 2 pair or a straight (with the 6), or pocket pairs that turned into trips, are all reasonable holdings.

However, at this point you are getting 10:1 to call. That is tough. I don't think that you are going to make a big mistake either way, but based on Ed Miller's advice in not folding big pots, I think that I would be inclined to call. This may be a leak in my game.

I've seen alot of calling stations doing these kinds of crazy things with only an Ace to show down.
If you think he's capable of bluffing the river I'd call, otherwise fold.

This happens all the time to me too and it SUCKS - 95% of the time I am calling this down as you see all sorts of 'weird' plays from even the fishiest players at 5/10 6 max - you are normally losing but not often enough to not make the call
