Default pick up a value bet or check the river.

Here is a common situation, I'm sure most of us face.

Let say you have a pair of 9's and raise in mid postion after everyone folds to you. The button, the SB, BB call.

The flop comes Q 8 5 r.

both blinds check, you bet, the button drops, the SB drops the BB calls.

Turn is an A.

He checks, you bet. he calls.

River is A, K, Q, J, T, 8, 7, 6, 4, 3, 2.

He checks.

Should you bet again to pick up an extra value bet or check it on through...and hope your hand wins in a showdown. Which cards falling would you want to river value bet and which ones would you check it on through.

These hypothetical questons of yours are for people focused only on playing cards rather than playing poker. The way you play a hand like this is dependent on your opponent.

Wow thats a lot of river cards for one hand!

Dynasty is right. you have to play the players. With a Q and an A on the board you're possibly in trouble. What hands do you think he's calling you with?

With him checking in to you on the turn its right to bet. On the river is tricky. And this is where you need a read on your opponent. IF your opponent is a meathead that will call you on the river with pure crap or bottom pair, then by all means, bet.

If not, maybe its better to just check the river.
