The limp preflop is questionable, but I wanted to play this hand. Do you raise preflop? I used to, but it just doesn't work for me. The BB has great odds to call and I'll be OOP for the rest of the hand. + there's more space to bluff if BB defined his hand preflop. Flop call is debatable also, but I wanted to bluff out villain if a favorable turn card comes. Raise pf, lead out flop and take it from there. Playing the way you did, I don't mind a turn check-raise on your part here, I use that same play alot against very LAG blind players as well, but, i would do it if you seen the blind play very aggressive, otherwise just drop on flop.

my experience is that even passive players go crazy when it comes to a blind battle.

I open raise preflop with J9s always. Completing and having the BB raise does nothing really to define his hand since he can raise with almost anything after your show of weakness. Initiative is important in blind battles even though you offer the BB great odds.
I don't like the turn check raise if your opponent has any sort of clue. I almost prefer a lead over a check raise because you offer your opponent much worse pot odds to call you down. Leading is also a 1 BB bluff rather than 2 BB (or 3BB since you likely have to follow through on many rivers.) It's just too easy for an observant opponent to put you on a K or a new flush draw on the turn and call you down. Basically, I think you need a read to make this play. |
