Default Showdown Question

If at the river, a player bets and you call and he says "you win", does he give up his claim to the pot? I was playing the 20 HE at commerce and the dealer said that if he says "you win", and you immediatly muck your cards, you win the pot. Shouldn't his cards be considered live unless he says "fold" or mucks his cards?

Would the dealer pay you the pot out of his pocket if the Floor ruled the other way?

Put it this way, I wouldn't count on a ruling going one way or the other.

Hold on to your cards.

Why give bad advice?
"generally" does not guarantee the pot if you muck.
" key his him saying" unfortunately means that you hear him say something. Doesn't mean he didn't say something different or that the dealer did not hear your opponenent.

This is a standard ruling the real lesson is don't say "you win." Something I have seen ahppen a lot is angle shooter bluffs, someone calls and say "you got me" or "you win" or whatever angle shooter turbo mucks (has nothing) and then asks for a ruling that probably goes in his favor.

He asked a rules question, not for playing advice or if it was a good rule.

Huh?
Your scenario, the caller says "You got me" and looses the pot? Are you kidding?
The original scenario, the better/bluffer says "You got me".
No, the lesson is, don't muck you hand based on what you think someone else says. A player saying "You win", or "Flush", or a dealer calling another players hand. Hold on to your hand and don't release it until you either have the pot or see you are beat.

No, this is a very standard ruling. But the other player has to react to him saying "you got me" by throwing away his hand. If both players have hands the best hand wins. If someoen "concedes" and the other player throws their hand away becasue the other player conceded they get the money.

If I bet and get called and I have a weak holding I sometimes say things along the lines of "you win" while at the same time turning over my cards. If he does not muck his cards before I show are my cards live? What can you say that means the other person made a good call without conceding the pot? It seems like a very subjective rule. I am afraid that if I say somehting as innocuous as "good call," and tap the table it may be taken as me giving up my claim to the pot.

Not where I play. People say it all the time when their hand is weak and they may be embarrassed to show it. They are leaving out the word "probably".

Saying, "You win." doesn't end the hand. Mucking your cards does. Flip your cards over and let the dealer decide. If he mutters something and mucks, then fine, you get the pot.

Why get all goofy? Flip over your stupid cards and get on with the next hand.

FWIW, I've been known in the past to make a thin/crying call on the river where I thought I had little chance of winning but enough chance to merit showing down and proceeded said call with the expression "you win." I generally say it before I put my chips in, and do it when calling instead of when being called, but I think it is quite common for people to say something like this without ever intending to muck the hand. It's usually just a concession that there hand isn't very good. If in doubt, always turn your cards over.
