Update (negative)
Today it crashed again, so obviously it was not fixed as I thought yesterday.
Since then I have also been able to upgrade the firmware of the router and now I'm trying to use it again.
We shall see what comes next.
Someone suggested that I take my laptop to a friend's home and connect it there, and see if it works. If it does, then I need to change my router. If not, then I need to do something about my laptop and its network card.
