Default Re: Professional VDO poker player - crosspost with \"Other Gambling\"

In the late 90s almost every casino had at least a small number of +EV video poker machinees, and advertised them heavily as such (but, of course, very few people who played them knew the optimal strategy.) It's nice to hear there still are a few in Vegas; they don't have them in the Indian casinos in the Northwest.

But even on one of these machines, you can't make a living at it - the edge is so small and the variance so high that it's easy to be behind even after a million plays. Whatever you get in comps is going to significantly outweigh what you get from the machine - indeed actually playing the machine is mostly going to be adding random noise Poker players worry about losing months - video poker players can have losing YEARS.

There also are people who watch the sizes of progressive jackpots, and bring in teams to play the whole bank of machines once the jackpot gets big enough to justify it. Maybe it's possible to make a living at that, if you have enough cheap lackeys and enough progressive networks in town to watch.
