Use completing the square to derive the quadratic formula.
Start with Ax^2+Bx+c=0
end with x = (-B (+-) SQRT(B^2-4AC))/2A
The algebraic manipulation is a little tricky. This goes a long way in solidifying your algebraic understanding and skills in my opinion.
