Default Re: Fate of the Riviera poker room

I have a theory that Las Vegas will support a finite number of poker rooms. Over the last ten years, i have seen the number of rooms remain about the same. The locations though have shifted.

While some rooms close (Harrahs, Stratosphere, Treasure Island, Riviera, Frontier, Las Vegas Club) there seems to be about an equal number that open (Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Monte Carlo,Palms, Bellagio).

It looks to me like the rooms can be grouped into two major categories:

The PlayersBellagio, the Mirage, the Orleans, and the Horseshoe) who make poker a big part of their overall offering and promote it as a major part of the casino.

The B-league Rooms: (Mandalay, Luxor, Excalibur, Sahara, Stardust, Flamingo etc) That offer the game but only make limited efforts to promote it and draw people in with it.

An e-friend i trade mail with thinks you can actually split some of the b rooms into a c-category as rooms that appear to be a part of the casino strictly as an afterthought with no promotion or efforts to make the room viable. (he puts the stardust and flamingo in that category) vs the other that, at least, have tournaments or some sort of promotional efforts.
