I think there are a lot of oil fields that are too small or too deep to be profitable for the oil companies in the current market. These may become economically viable as the price goes up. Thus new supplies may be found as prices rise and the jolt might not be so sudden. Probably as these are exploited and supply runs low, newer more expensive fields will be mined, or we will find cheaper ways to get to the harder-to-reach resovoirs.

Also, formerly lower margin production methods (like Canada's oil sands) will become much higher margin businesses. Maybe this makes Suncor a stock to look at for those who think we have seen the end of cheap crude.
