Default Re: Kerry \"Unfit to be Commander-in-Chief\" Say Former CO\'s

[ QUOTE ]
Kerry and O'Neill engaged in a nationally televised debate in 1971 on The Dick Cavett Show over Kerry's allegations that many Vietnam soldiers had routinely engaged in atrocities such as raping and cutting off ears and heads of Vietnamese soldiers and citizens. Kerry was the then spokesman for the anti-war group Vietnam Veterans Against the War.

Ultimately, this is what the whole anti-Kerry thing from a bunch of vets comes down to. Kerry, along with many other Vietnam veterans, had the gall to go public with the atrocities that he saw committed by some American troops. He also made the unforgiveable mistake of leaving Nam early, deciding he didn't want to be part of the organized murder of thousands of civilians.

There is an excellent documentary about the Vietnam Veterans Against the War called The Winter Soldier. I don't know how available it is, but it is worth seeing for anybody who doubts that these atrocities were committed by many, though by no means most, individuals. Neither Kerry nor the others in his group ever claimed the offenders were in anything close to a majority.

But for some people, to besmirch the honor of the military at all by coming forward about such misconduct is treasonous. Sickeningly, it is these people that cloak themselves in the flag nowadays. QED --> "Patriot" and "Fit to Lead" = Somebody who understands that such atrocities either should not be mentioned or simply didn't happen.
