Default Re: Lithuania question.....

Lithuania is super sweet. It didn't have as many factories and stuff as the other baltic countries, and is generally less influenced by Soviet and Russia. It is still to a fair extent a farm country, which makes for absolutely excellent and cheap food. Great beer too. Vilnius is just now becoming more attractive for tourists, it still isn't that infested. It has a beautiful old town, lots of street performers (maybe not in the winter tho).

When I was there this summer I went to Visaginas, which is a border country to Russia. It is 20 years old and only came to be because the Russians wanted another nuclear power plant. They decided to place it there, in the middle of the great pine forest, and then just built a city to house the workers.
We took up some hitchhikers on the way there, who happened to be from this very city. So they set us up for a night out with the local younglings. We spent the night around the gas station drinking beer, talking about the future and dreaming. Their dreams consisted of a lot of getting the hell out of there, going to Sweden or Germany or wherever to study and work. Man that was a sweet night and it ended with all of us driving to the nuclear plant and getting our photos taken in front of it, having a nice meeting with a drunken russian guard, which our new lithuanian friends had to smooth talk our way out of.

Then we were off for Poland. Good times man.
