Playing online would give him a much better chance of building up a $500 bankroll to something reasonable. However, you still wouldn't start at 2-4, you'd start at more like 50c-1.00 and play two tables. Even 1-2 would be slightly pushing it bankroll wise. I think you need more like 400 big bets, not 300 (assuming unreplenishable bankroll) but that's just my opinion, not hardcore fact. However, my opinion is based on a lot of experience.

Also notice that none of what I am discussing in any of my posts thusfar relates at all to no limit play.
