Default Was I hustled?

I'm from the UK, and last September was in Vegas with my dad, pretty much in full "tourist mode". One day we were Downtown, just checking it out and wandering around. After we had eaten lunch in the 4 Queens, we were crossing the area at the crossroads, between the 4 casinos, and stopped by a lady standing on her own.

She was 50-ish, and for no reason stopped us and started telling us she had just had her bag stolen in one of the casinos. Apparently security and the police didn't believe her, and she didn't know what to do. She mentioned lots of details, like she was a university lecturer from another part of the states, etc. All this happened as we just walked past her, out of nowhere.

We offered her the usual sympathy, and told her surely the police must believe, go explain fully to security, and the likes. She wasn`t for doing that though. My Dad and I, whilst being polite and sympathetic, were pretty wary. The strange thing is, she asked for no money, and we were never close enough to her to be pickpocketed or anything like that.

She wasn't a drunk or down and out or anything, and seemed reasonably articulate. Something was up though, and it finished with my Dad and I saying she should really go to security or the police, wishing her best of luck, and leaving.

Was this a hustle?
