There's this thing called nighttime, and there's this thing called daytime, and it's been going on for about 4 billion years now on the planet Earth (or about 10,000 if you believe in that jesus guy, that mohammed guy, or that torah thing).
All animals sleep during the nighttime unless they are physically unable to fend for themselves during the day, in which case they sleep during the day and do all their sh[/i]it at night.
There have been millions of hours of research devoted to the study of sleep, many of these show sleep's ability to refresh our bodies mentally, emotionally, and physically (and allow OOT nerds to have wet dreams about washed up French singers).
We can't exist without sleep, and why the hell would we want to? Sleeping is cool, being awake 24/7/365 would get incredibly tedious.
