I agree with all of this. It can be done for under $150 though if you shop around, especially for the fabric. The most recent fabric I'm going to use for a friend's table is some sort of nylon/poly mix that's lightning slick, and was $3 for 3 yards at WalMart. Casino felt? No, but certainly playable and a nice way to save money.

I've done 100% poly fabrics for the other two I made, and they both worked great.
