new pro needs help .. look at my stats please
      #804997 - 07/06/04 06:03 AM

Hi everybody. Totally new here. I am young, hated my job and recently quit it. I've been playing poker less than a year, but I'm very smart and picking it up quickly. Since I've been a consistent winner, and have built up a pretty large bankroll, I'm trying it as a pro.

Maybe this is stupid but I'm young and I don't care! Besides I am confident with all the dopes I see at Party shorthanded, I know I'm better than them already, and expect to get much better. I want to learn all I can.

That said, I don't know anything about what my stats should look like. Here's my numbers from Pokertracker, only from 6-max tables at Stars and Party. The vast majority of this is 5-10, a little 10-20 and a little 3-6 and 2-4 from my bankroll building period. Any advice/suggestions from the 2+2 crowd would be GREATLY appreciated.

Total hands: 25k
Vol Put $ in Pot: 30.5%
Vol Put $ from SB: 42%
Saw Flop all hands: 37%
Saw Flop not in blind: 25%
Won $ when saw flop: 35%
Went to showdown: 34%
Won $ at showdown: 54%
Raised preflop: 14.5%
Limp/call reraise preflop: .02% (only 4 times)
Aggression factor: 1.32, only .76 preflop (stupid pokertracker)

BB/100 hands: 1.61

Thanks in advance. If there's any other stat that might help let me know.

You reduce your BB/hour by seen a bit more hands that you should do as well as your agression is weak. For example i see 34.5% of flops and won$ when saw flop in 42.16% and my BB/100 after 40K 4.1BB/100. Looks like you limping with tiny pairs and small suited connectors more than needed.

Looks at your figures for (i) steal attempts and, (ii) how many times you fold the BB/SB to a steal. I think you need to be hitting at least (i) 25% or more and (ii) 80%/60% approx. respectively.

Limping too much PF is costing you as Peter says.

Take a look at your figures by position as well, and post here, this can be quite revealing as to how you play your game. Positional results are big indicators of your overall game tactic.

Your seen the flop percentage is way too high, mine is 23% which includes playing from the blinds. Your win percentage at showdown is pretty low too-- mine is more like 70%, but I also play much tighter than you. You will show down more winners if you tighten up and your win rate will go up. Play tight and pick games where there are people who like to limp and like to cold call.

Your preflop raise should be much, much higher. If you are first in, raise. If there are limpers to you and you have a good hand, raise. If it is raised before you you should reraise or fold. In the six max games you should play tight and raise every time you are in. You want to wait for good cards and then play them vs 1 or 2 opponents who have worse cards than you. Never open limp and never cold call a raise.

You complete the SB way too often, which is probably where a good chunk of your extra percentage is from. Your position and probably your cards suck in the SB, just fold and wait.

I'm not a big fan of limp reraising in these games-- people will call your raise, so you might as well raise. So it's good you don't do it. Just raise.

Some thoughts.. can't figure out how to quote here but oh well.

I don't limp-reraise often .. once in a great while UTG with AA .. but that stat is limp, CALL reraise, not limp-reraise. Anyway I guess I shouldn't be doing that either.

NEVER limp? Okay I guess this is a leak. There are definitely hands I'm limping in with, like QTsuited, A6suited, 89suited. I take it these are all folds in early/mid position?

And about my preflop raise percentage of 14.5% or whatever.. you say that's much too low, but you also say I'm too loose. So maybe I should keep it the same but just stop limping? Should I have a VPIP% of 20% and a raise preflop % of 20% also?

My attempt to steal blinds % is 30%
Fold SB to steal 74%, BB 41%

Not exactly sure what stats you mean by position. I guess I'll just run the gamut.

Numbers are VPIP%, Cold Call%, PF Raise%, BB/hand ..
BUTTON 33%/3.4%/20%/.14
1 off 26%/1.2%/17%/.08
2 off 23%/.5%/14%/.08
UTG 21%/0/11.5%/.02
BB 30%/0/9%/-.15
SB 42%/0/13%/-.05

Look like you could tighten up a little UTG and poss. BB as well (esp. to PF raises).

Limping or cold/calling too much will encourage you to do same on flop. Better to fold or raise than cold-call (except sometimes OTB). Your W$WSF figure is quite low (should be nearer 38-40%) but your W$SD is ok so post-flop looks ok.

Time to post some hands.

This is too high. This means you're very easy bluffed on river and missed your BB/hour. Mine won at SD is near 50% and i think it's pretty good while im running at all very good too.

Throw away all of these UTG if you never limp-reraise UTG. I limp QT and 89s only when limper exists. A6s - raise from mid position even if limpers exists or maybe fold if you're multytabling and have no reads on limper but better - raise.

Agreed. Focusing on stats can be very dangerous, and even if you do it wisely you'll still get a lot more valuable feedback by posting some hands you're not sure about.
