two pair

SNG, 4 left, 3 in money, blinds 50-100. i have 1800, SB has 4500.he is very trappy!

26 offsuit in BB. field folds, SB calls, i check.
flop is 2 8 6 rainbow.

he checks, i bet 200, he calls. turn: a somewhat ugly 4. he bets 600. what to do? he bet enough that i couldn't raise him enough without getting in bad chip shape, so i didn't know where i stood. i thought his 600 bet, no matter what he had, was excellent.

Re: two pair

I would go all in, puting him on something like A8s for top pair or 99, TT or maybe just two overcards, if he floped a set you probably lose but you go down shooting, but that's just my style.

I think the 600 bet was a chip position bet and he's playing the board and his opponent's stack very well...with your chip count and the possibility of hands he could have, I'd fold it and pick another spot.

I would have gone all in as well. Hard to say exactly without knowing other players chip stacks but two pair seems like a pretty good holding here.

My feeling is you can't always fear the nuts and fear the big stack and unless another stack is very very short you should raise all in if you think you have the best of it.

Result?

Re: two pair

if it were a "chip position bet" like you said, wouldn't that mean he's got a weaker hand than what the bet might project? he could have had bigger two pair, but i didn't really didn't think so, or turned the ugly str8 with the 4, but i thought unlikely. i went all in. he called + showed JJ. JJ was no good.

Re: two pair

This is extremely dependent on the payout schedule and the stacks of the other 2 players. But assuming standard-ish payouts, then, if you're not very solidly in 2nd place I think this is a clear call.

Hi Paul,

I think I call here. You have two pair, and he may very well be betting top pair, or an overpair. Given that you have described him as "very trappy," I think the overpair is more likely.

I usually go down weakly, calling off my stack...but that's just me, I'm a bad player....
