misdeal questions in home tournament
 

Here's a question regarding a mis-deal during a no limit 7-stud game in a home poker tournament.

I originally posted this question in the 7-stud forum and got a response as to how cardrooms deal with my question. The response was helpful, but I am posting here to get the home game perspective.

It's heads-up on 5th street:

Player A has a spade and an 8 in the hole, with 3 spade upcards, one of which is the 8. Player B has KQ in the hole and J-9-10 showing.

Player A bets $3. Player B calls the $3 and raises $8 all-in.
Player A is thinking with the intention of calling.

**The dealer mis-deals at this point and deals Player A the A-spade with the raise not yet called.**

After much discussion, the decision was made to pull Player A's 6th street card and re-shuffle the deck.

Player A calls the all-in raise. The cards are dealt: Player A does not get a spade and Player B’s straight is good.

My question:

What is the "correct" procedure in a mis-deal like this? How have others dealt with this issue in home games and home tournaments?

Home game. Hmm, I have the dealer call the bet, for that player and play on.

In our home game we deal with it the same way you dealt with it.

Reshuffle the cards.

In our pretty high stakes college games we didnt even go that far...a single card mis-dealt was burned, and the player who missed his card gets his replacement after everyone else gets their "normal card" for that round. It saves time, and a firm no-reshuffling rule doesnt change the probabilities...the misdealt card may be an "out" or may not be an "out".. since it is unknown before the misdeal, the replacement card has just as much chance of being an "out" as it ever did.

Two misdeals on the same hand the dealer matched the pot, but the play continued as above. We didnt have many double mis-deals, needless to say!
