Playing in Arizona

Does anybody play at Casino Arizona in Phoenix? I am interested to see what people think of the rake, quality of games, # of tourists, etc.

I posted about this a while back but didn't get many responses/info.

If anybody plays their I would appreciate any info. Also I was wondering what people thought of playing in arizona compared to vegas and los angeles.

Any information, comments are greatly appreciated.

I do not play there ,but I have played there several times. Before the new casino opened I thought C.A. was the best place that I ever played. The last time that I was there they raised the rake plus charged full price[unstead of 1/2 price ]for there excellant food. The games were very good. Some players played too tight & some too loose.I guess that I would say the better players played too tight with little or no imagenation.I herd that they moved the poker back to the old bldg.this may be a plus..??.Ranking C.A from 1-10 the last time that I was there[1/2002]I'd give it an eight. I play there semi-regularly. I echo the comments about the players. There seemed to be two types: tight and predictable and wild and crazy. My biggest complaint is the lack of a no-smoking section. However if you live in Phoenix its certainly the most convient card room and overall not a bad place to play.

Hope this helps.

I didn't respond the first time because I think this is a pointless question. you said you are moving there. if I tell you the games are bad, will you not play there? of course not. go check it out, then tell us what you think.

Re: Playing in Arizona

I have played at Casino Arizona regularly in LL games (3-6, and 4-8) over the last 2 years. It's my favorite poker room by far in Arizona and is about as good as it gets live for table selection at LL. It's a great room with many tables going at the LL levels. I haven't been there since January so I don't know if they have moved. I would say the games are somewhat tighter than they were a year ago, but still beatable. The LL games may be unbeatable during the hot months when everyone leaves town. Afternoons had a fair number of retirees who play every hand and don't know when to fold. Evenings on weekends are very busy, and the games are excellent in general, especially when the bad beat jackpot gets very large (greater than $30,000. I have seen it as large as $90,000 and there were about 100 names on the waiting lists). Beware the games after midnight, when the sharks make up a large fraction of the players. Get to know the regulars, most know how to play.

Food is excellent. Dealers are mostly excellent. They often have free contests going during football, basketball and such on weeknights if you're at a table.
