Turned a set, got check-raised.

8/16 at Canterbury. Table was seeing 5 to the flop and with raises on about 2/3 of hands. It was playing less aggro than it usually does.

Hero has been at the table for 90 minutes and has played only 3 hands. Villian sat down an orbit ago and is a regular who has played well.

Hero picks up black JJ in MP. Two limp to Hero, who raises. Four call, including Villian in tht BB and the two limpers.

Five to the flop for 10 SB. Flop is all low cards, with two hearts. All check to Hero, who bets. Three callers.

Four to the turn for 7 BB. Turn is the J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. All check to Hero, who bets. Villian check-raises, only Hero calls. I figure he has the flush, but there are 10BB in the pot, and I'm drawing to a boat. Hero calls.

River is a brick. Villian bets. Hero calls.

Standard?

Fine.

Pretty standard. You say that the villain plays well, but you dont say if he is tricky and capable of checkraising 2 pair or a lower set here.

You pretty much have to call on the river getting 12-1 on the call.

Yup 5 callers and no read except he plays well. Right plays.

BUT if he really did have the flush draw on the flop why not check raise the flop and build a 5:1 pot for himself.

Then again if he is bluffing representing the flush you don't want to reraise him on the turn. Act disapointed and call down.

So you lose the least with the draw to the FH or you let him continue bluffing.

I would have check raised the flop with a flush draw with all those callers

eh.. what? I know it's a small sample, but I'd expect to see you playing many more hands than this, especially drawing hands. am I missing something?

I'd say that's pretty standard. you're beat more than 11/12 times on the river but I still call here to keep people from stealing in the future.

I think this play is less valuable than it may seem, especially because hero is in late position so villain's checkraise will knock out many other players. I want to keep as many players as possible in this pot with a flush draw.

Sometimes you just don't get playable hands. I did see the flop with a BB or two in that time, but these were 84o kind of hands that were folded on the flop. I saw 23o 4 times in that 90 minutes. Bleh.
