How To Double Up Off TJ Cloutier

I was watching on the history channel how McManus doubled up off TJ Cloutier by doing everything the opposite of what TJ recommended in the book having earlier told TJ how he memorized the book.

McManus raises from early position with AKo. TJ reraises from late position with A9o. According to the book, you can only reraise with KK or AA.

The flop comes rags. McManus check/calls. Another rag on the turn. Check/allin/call. The book says you should check/fold with AK if you don't make a pair.

Evidently TJ thought McManus would fall into all the recommended weak/tight traps and bluffed off most of his chips making McManus the tournament chip leader.

Yeah I saw that too. If you liked it read "Positively Fifth Street". The whole book is about that tournament(and the binion murder trial).

I'm sure this is mentioned everytime Pos. 5th Street is brought up, but everyone I know loved the tournament and the Binion murder chapters, yet they all skipped the chapters where he talks about how he got into poker.

I read it from cover to cover and I found the chapters revealing McManus more interesting than the murder chapters. But off course the action reports from the tournament were best.

Was I the only one who found the thing on the History chanell annoying? I don't know if it was the overacting by the guy playing McManus or the way they worked so hard to make it melodramatic.

Good luck all,

Fitz

I read the book cover to cover. Great book.

I don't remember any chapters on how he got into poker. Which strikes me as not different from skipping those chapters (if they do in fact exist).

Cloutier has written a few books. Which one do you mean?

His No Pot Limit and No Limit Hold'em book. McManus pretty well used this book and Super System along with Wilson's No Limit Hold'em software to prepare for his WSOP.

I know what you mean by the "little annoying". I found it interesting, but it was pretty funny to see how much they dumbed it down for non-poker players and how much they overhyped some of the major moments.

I was laughing very very hard when with eyes of stone the actor portraying Cloutier says in a loud dramatic tone "I raise 200,000". He was much worse than the guy playing McManus.
