Downloading music?

So what is the hot/preferred client used to download mp3s from the internet these days?

If you want easy, Kazaa.

If you want stealth, mirc.

If you want legal, iTunes and Napster.

That version is illegal. Did somebody start distributing it again? Are the IP tables still supported?

I have used WinMX for the past 4 years without a problem. There is no spyware or popups and it is by far the easiest to control and use. You can throttle the download and upload speeds on individual files, making it easy to surf the web at the same time. I have probably 400 movies downloaded to disks and hard drives.
As with any client, be careful what you "share" with others. This is primarily where you get caught. Make your shared folder different than your download folder and put files in it that are not too conspicuous. Things like Eminem, etc, in your shared folder is an easy way to get caught. Some people may think its not fair to "leach" like this, but id rather be "incorrect" than in jail or stuck with a big fine.

Also, make sure if you are downloading recent copyrighted material such as new songs, that you watch who you are downloading them from. If I am downloading one of Pink's songs, for instance, then I check the source's file list. If he has "Debby does Dallas", or other off topic material, then he most likely isnt the RIAA. Good luck.

I'm hoping the "hot/preferred" thing to do will be to get your music legally soon. Stealing really sucks.

Yes it does. Just a FYI, I still buy CD's, I prefer ripping my own lossless music files. I'm a bit of an audiophile.

If I download a song, and like it, I almost always end up buying the CD or a better quality version of the mp3. The internet has had the side effect of making me interested in a wider variety of music then I would be if I couldn't download.
