Simple PF Q.

$29.

1st place - $215
2nd place - $28

First 5 hands of the tourney. UTG who seems loose/fishy limps. You raise to 70 on the button with AQs. SB makes it 150 more to call. UTG folds.

What is my play?

n.b. blinds are 10/20 and stacks are 1500. Blinds increase every 10 mins.

Call and see the flop. If it hits you, great. If not, check fold. Can't fold to this raise PF though. Makes it look like all anyone has to do is raise on you and you'll fold. Unless that's what you want them to think....

I think you want to call here, but can't fault the fold either. A re-raise is out of the question.

I don't mind a fold here. You have 70 in there and its 150 more to call? For those that would call, what do you do if anything besides a queen hits?

If he had raised it TO 150, it might have been cheap enough to be an autocall anyway, but 150 more is a significant raise.

Re: Simple PF Q.

So the pot is 330 and I have to pay 150 to call.
I am only going to hit an Ace or a Queen 1/3 times. So lets say every time I hit an Ace or a Queen I win the pot, otherwise I fold, then the call is still very marginal.

Bear in mind I can hit my Ace and beat outkicked. I can hit my Queen and be up against an overpair etc. and it just does not seem worth it.

I am only going to feel comfortable if I hit two pair, a straight, a flush draw, a pair and a flush draw etc. This is early in the tournament, I have plenty of $ left, so why spend >10% of my chips when I am only going to be comfortable with very few flops.

Do you intend to fold every time he does this?
If so, what is your name on the poker sites?

Yes Insty, and I'm sure his opponent was taking advantage of the well-known fact that this guy always folds when reraised in these situations.
I think folding here is fine, especially in the small buyin events where you can find better spots later.
