suprising poll on cardplayer

there is a poll on cardplayer.com right now that asks everyone their age. right now the age category "18 and under" has 83 percent. Last night it was 92 percent.

I heard there is a poker boom among teenagers but this is ridiculous. You mean to tell me 80+ percent of poker players can't even legally enter a casino? Do you think this site has a similar demographic?

I guess its good for poker's future but i would like to think there are a few old foggies like me who are in their 30s. Yes i realize the net has a younger demographic but these numbers are amazing. Maybe i should take up shuffleboard?

Major selection bias. I don't even look at those type of polls, as they are worse than meaningless.

However, I do like the idea that the seeds of poker's future are being planted so deeply today.

Yeah but poker's future isn't the same as say football's future. Any age can play this game, so really we are the future of the game...if that makes any sense...

Shuffleboard!?...nooo! But I do have similiar feeling sometimes, lurking around 2+2.

I'm on the "backside of 30", as someone once said in a country song. But hey, the Rolling Stones are planning another world tour in...2006! They'll all be in their mid 60's by then.

Rock-n-Roll never forgets.

Go into the archives-- say 5 years ago or so-- and get a feel for what the general tenor was like on these boards when the bulk of the posters were 25+ years of age. The difference is staggering.

Although net use is expanding among retirees, who have lots of free time, it's still the youngest people by far who use the internet recreationally. The people in the middle, which is a huge percentage, are a comparative dead zone for recreational net use. So there's huge selection bias there.

Tied in to the greater use of the internet by the young is the fact that they generally simply have more time to do like answer surveys, etc. They have school vacations, odd school and work schedules, and generally don't have families or businesses to run.

The older crowd is more into B&M play too. Hard to answer an online poll about how much poker you play when you're already at the casino playing poker.

I just checked the poll again, the results are closer to what i thought was the reality. Hopefully i sent a few legal drinkers over to vote it's not like i reported it at 92 percent after 8 people voted, there were 1100 votes when it was at 92 percent. Anyway, i don't feel as old now.

Eh, gambling's a better hobby than buying guns and shooting your classmates, so this sounds like a step forward for American society.

Also, I think this is selection bias. Old people have jobs; we don't have time to answer polls.
