factoid about hurricanes

My wife is a gaming analyst and she told me that historically hurricanes are good for casinos because poor people will often use their FEMA money to gamble. I find this amusing for some reason.

she is probably also familiar with a similar aspect that I learned in my 8 months at the low-limit BJ tables.

A couple of experienced floor-persons confirmed for me that there is increased play around the beginning of the month from the variety of folks cashing their unemployment, welfare and social-security checks.

Some of them bring the checks DIRECTLY to the casino and cash them there (they typically run some sort of promotion where you get a little cash give-away sweepstakes card if you cash your pay-check at the casino).

Speaking of hurricanes and casinos, according to the news tonight, the new Hard Rock Casino that was to open in Biloxi in two weeks was totally destroyed. Ouch.

No links to photos, but I was just gonna say about casinos being destroyed... Was reading an article here about what their situation is down there... Destroyed. Where are they going to gamble their FEMA money now that the casinos are shut down? This is a tragic story being in the industry... These people lost their jobs, and some their lives... Those trolls who post here won't have to worry about whether or not dealers down there are getting tipped...
