Well personally I would never in my wildest dreams raise to 75 from the BB with AQo. I have never done this in a situation like this since I started 8 tabling. Note that I check AKo here too most of the time. This is just my personal preference and I don't claim that it's the best way to play.

On the flop I'd check and fold of course.

what do you do with aq and ak in this situation pf? it has been happening quite a bit lately and i think it is one of those loose ends that i would like to get tied up.

I told you I check and then play accordingly postflop.

Damnit, you play too much like me, stop that! Actually sometimes I'll raise AKo here, but not AQo.

I'm guessing this advice goes for BB and SB (check/complete pre-flop, check/fold on the flop if you miss).

Considering its lvl 1, same stacks:

How does your line change when there's a raise and you're in the SB/BB with AKo, AKs, AQo, AQs?

How does your line change when you're EP/MP with the same hands? Any difference in your play between having limpers behind you and opening this early in the game?

We all fold AJo/AJs EP, MP at lvl 1, right?
Perhaps open-raise with AJs from MP3 and later? no?

From other positions do you ever limp with AK or is that just from the blinds?

In level 1 I limp in EP as well. AK is a drawing hand and they're a bitch to play out of position. This is my personal opinion, but I'm sure others will disagree. A nice thing about limping this hand though is that people never give you credit for AK and you can stack off alot against kq, aj or aq. Often even worse depending on the buyin.

Yeah but 90% of the time at the 11s and 22s if someone has AQ I take their money if an A hits even with a nice rasie PF.

Hi johnnybeef-

I'm not curtains, but I just made a post on the same subject a few days ago.

AQo in the BB in a limped pot

Some good responses in there.

I almost never open limp with AK. I often flat call raises, even min raises, early in the tournament.

Much of the value of AK and AQ comes from one's skill in extracting money from weaker aces. Everybody knows how much monkeys like weak aces.

But there seems to be one consistent theme regarding the standard bad play of a weak ace: people seem to like limping with them.

You can pretty much group common limping hands into 3 categories:

1. Weak aces
2. Pairs
3. Any other 2 cards

If somebody is limping against your AK/AQ, you are not going to get much $$ from them post flop if an ace comes if they have a category #2 or #3 hand. If they have an ace, they will usually pay you off no matter what.

I think that these considerations give considerable credence to the idea of raising with AK/AQ from the blinds in an un-raised pot. That doesn't mean that I always do it... because I often won't. But it surprises me that Curtains wouldn't even dream of it.

Having said all that, most people suck from the blinds and suck at playing AK/AQ... so Curtains' line is probably really good advice. I like to keep pots small whenever possible, but keeping it meaningless with a big ace from the blinds makes it even harder to fall into a horrible mistake.

I wouldn't dream of it because I never do it. I prefaced it by saying that I don't claim it's universally correct to just check, it just meshes well with my style.

In my last 2500 sit and go's I don't remember the last time I raised many limpers in the 10-15 round with AQo from the blind, unless of course I'm short stacked with like 200-300 chips in which case I'd move allin.
