Turned nuts with a bet and a raise to me.

5-5 nl 300-1000 buy in.

5 handed FIRST HAND

Hero is button with 600 and is dealt Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

UTG (700) limps (utg is an extremely loose agressive but not too smart and is very predictable in terms of his bets. 50 means nothing, 100 means monster and so forth.)

cutoff (500) limps (cutoff is pretty straightforward winning player)

I limp (first hand, I am viewed as extremely aggressive and an overbetter)

Blinds check

5 players 25 in the pot

Flop A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

UTG bets 25
cutoff calls 25
Hero calls 25

4 players 100 dollars in the pot

Turn 7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
UTg bets 75
cutoff raises to 150

Hero. . . ..

I elected to put on a show and just call, I wanted to make it look like I had 222 or a small flush hoping that utg would call 75 or even reraise.

3 players 550 in the pot

River 3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

Utg checks
cutoff checks
hero fires 300

thoughts?

i was going to post about preflop hand selection (especially hand selection for open limping) but my mommy taught me that if i couldn't say anything nice i shouldn't say anything at all.

Folding preflop would have been the move, but once here, I like raising the turn. If UTG or CO has a set, you have to make them pay to draw. Plus, a smaller flush may not be able to let his hand go. Get the money in now before the board pairs or a 4th club pops up on the river.

You flat called the flop when there's two of a suit on the board. On the turn, the flush comes in. There's a bet and a raise to you...

Unless you fold, it will be extremely obvious to everyone that you have a flush. Whether you call or you raise.

So raise already.

Moreover

People here tend to forget the difference between Live casino, online, and club games.

Point A: Where is the harm in limping with 200bb's first hand? In my humble opinion my 5 dollar investment turned into a 800 dollar pot, which seems like an alright reasoning to limp here.

The players at my game are not especailly good increasing the implied odds of almost any two cards exponentially.

Point B: On the turn, there was a problem. UTG would have folded his two pair (he had AK) had I reraised. I told myself that if the board pairs on the river I was folding and I knew that if I raised they would fold. I was happy taking the chance and letting them think I'm either stealing it or had the flush.

I understand that this hand goes outside the boundaries of consistant winning play but I feel that sometimes especially when playing in a club with people that you have played with countless times before, you need to mix it up and make sure they know that you dont always move in with the nuts.

In the end, utg called with AK for two pair, cutoff folded a set of 2's and I won the hand.

Re: Moreover

Yes, you are right, limping in with Q6s only costs 1 bb out of your 200bbs, come back to me when your Q high flush gets stacked by Kxs or you get stacked on a 66A board etc...It only has to happen once for you to realize these hands hit the nuts but rarely give someone else a 2nd best hand, and rarely do you get enough action when you aren't beat to justify the limp in the first place. Obviously if you pride yourself on making big lay downs, and could lay down the 2nd nuts or something of that equivalent by all means play them. If you also are playing with very loose, very passive, calling station fish, by all means play 70%+ of the hands you get dealt. These things rarely happen though...

Re: Moreover

Every thread I read has atleast one player giving the one-liner "Fold pre-flop".

He asking for help postflop, not whether you think Q6s with 200BB's is worth a limp or not.

I like how you played the hand post flop.

Re: Moreover

In the right games, I'd think any 2 cards would be profitable for a limp on the button after 2 limpers with deep money. You don't have to win big pots with a hand for it to be profitable to limp with it.
