Right to bet at pot when everyone checks?

This is a move I'll use a lot. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't.
I'm trying to find gaps in my game to fill. The basic gist is betting at a pot when everyone checks.

Thanks in advance

For me, it depends how many people are in the pot, my chip count and my opponents.

I will try to steal wayyyy more pots when I have chips to spare.

+1 use of "gist"

I think I bet here, 1/2 pot - pot though. To me a bet of 65 is just as likely to take this one down.

Everybody loves stealing pots.
But doing it with a cookie-cutter rule like "when everyone checks" might get you into trouble.
I like and use IC5's approach, its more dynamic, less open to traps.

I certainly don't do this if there are 3 or more people in the pot with me.

Re: Right to bet at pot when everyone checks?

How many in the pot (huge), stacks, reads, texture of the flop, PF action (did I raise?), pot size . . . there is much to consider. The question "is it right to bet when everyone checks" doesn't have a right answer, because it couldn't be right for every situation.

In this case, the action is a little tough to follow, but I think I like the bet. No one has showed any strength at all, and you likely have the best hand. 105 might be a slight overbet, but generally, betting makes sense here.

I agree. Yeah. if there are 6 people in the hand, I'll probably check this too. a lot of people in the hand with a Q J on the board is something I wont bet at with 77.
By saying I'll use this move a lot I really meant "under favorable to moderate conditions"

I'm trying to find gaps in my game to get to the next level. I just wanted to see if this is one of those gaps.

Thanks for all your great input!

I agree with previous posters that you should have bet 50-75. That way your strategy only has to work 1 out of 3 times to break even.

Also you may consider not pulling moves like this until the blinds are higher and the pots are bigger. What I mean here is that you might have a chance at winning a huge pot if you check it through and spike a 7 on the turn. If your 105 bet got called on the flop, you are probably screwed and just blew off 20-25% of your stack with a measly pair of 7's
