Optical Mouse freeze

Twice in the past two days my Microsoft optical mouse has just frozen (inoperable). I've had to reboot to get it to work again.

Is this sort of problem typical?

Is there a way to navigate without a mouse?

Should I just go out and get another mouse (or a backup mouse) or something?

If you are using USB for it try unplugging it, waiting a few seconds, and then plugging it in again instead of rebooting. Otherwise i'd reccomend getting a new mouse. This seems to be what happens when they are failing. I had this problem with an optical mouse for a while and it gradually got worse until it was bad enough that i went out and got a new one.

Unplugging didn't work, I will likely go out and buy a new one (I still average one freeze a day <8 hours online/day>)

My mouse has a USB plug which is plugged into a converter with a round connector that fits into the mouse outlet in my PC. I tried to plug the USB plug directly into another USB port, but my PC did not recognize it as new hardware (didn't work). Why wouldn't plugging directly into a USB port work?

No reason. It's screwed... buy another!
