A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
First time I watched Mr. Rogers with one of my kids, I thought, gee, this guy is a little strange, I don't know if I'd want my kids going over to his house. But then I watched a few times and realized the guy was a saint. Taught kids to respect their neighborhood, their neighbors, and themselves. Without talking down to them.
A special person. A world with Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden in it is bad enough; one without Fred Rogers is worse. |
Re: A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
As a guy who grew up on a steady diet of PBS kids shows every afternoon (ok, at least until I was four or so), I couldn't agree more.

Re: A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
I watched him a lot as a child, and think he was truly wonderful. A very real loss.

Re: A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
Today on NPR they replayed pieces of interviews with him. He was so attuned to children's feelings. What a gift to the country to have has him on t.v. for so long.
