Specifically a set? Or a set or better (boat, quads)?

The answer for a set or better is 7.5:1

Re: odds to flop a set

I'm sure this has been covered before, but here goes. The probability that you flop a set are equal to (1 - (probability that you don't flop a set)). I assume you are holding a pocket pair and looking for one card on the flop.

The probability that you don't flop a set are (48*47*46)/(50*49*48), so the probability you do flop a set are 1 - (48*47*46)/(50*49*48), or 11.76%. Converted to odds this is 7.51:1. There is a small chance out of that 11.76% that you will flop quads, as I have technically calculated the odds that you will flop at least one of the two remaining cards. Please consider that a bonus

With a pocket pair: 7.51 to 1 (against).
With any unpaired starting hand: 73.2 to 1 (against).
