Looking for cheapo hotel rooms in Vegas 10/6-10/10

Well as a government worker, I get a holiday that just about no one else gets - 10/10/05 Columbus Day. That make the drive home from Vegas to Los Angeles all that much easier...on a Monday. I am going to head up on the previous Thursday. The stumbling block has been room prices. I like staying on the strip close to either Mirage or Bellagio. IP and Aladdin have been VERY accomodating in the recent past with room rates around $40-50 per weeknight and $50-80 for weekends along with free food/slotplay. Unfortunately, both properties have been sold and the cheapo offers have dried up.

So with that in mind, I am hoping that someone is aware of any decent room offers in that vicinity of the strip. After much searching online including travelaxe, travel websites, and hotel websites, the best I can find are:

Stratosphere $95 per night/avg - hotels-in-usa.net
Frontier $105/night avg - i4vegas.com
Stardust $95/night avg - bookvegas.com

Problem is these are all far from any decent cardrooms except Frontier which is a dump. So with that in mind, I looked up downtown rooms and figured I would just save the money:

Lady Luck $67/night average - expedia.com
Plaza $59/night average - hotel website
Las Vegas Club $55/night average - hotelkingdom.com

My inclination is to stay at Plaza. I have stayed at LVC before and it is OK, but the rooms are kinda dumpy in the South Tower. Plaza seemed nicer when I went there about 4 months ago.

So---does anyone know of any specials or room offers available on the strip that weekend? Thanks!

Have you looked at the Sahara? Room rate average on the Web is listed as average $120 for those nights, but if you call the card room you can get their rate which is usually a lot cheaper.

Hi SR,

I haven't looked recently, but you might try the Gold Coast. It's a locals hangout type of hotel. It has shuttles (every 15 minutes I think) to the Barbary Coast and the Orleans. It's right across the street from the Rio. The Rio has a shuttle also. The Rio shuttle goes to the a casino right near the mirage and Belagio (I think between the Mirage and Belagio). I think the hotel that the Rio shuttle goes to is the Frontier, but I'm not sure. I am 95% sure of it's proximity to other hotels on the strip.

The Gold Coast is more than a descent place to stay. They say checkin is 1pm, but I've checked in at 9am before. It's also right across the street from the Palms.

Hope that helps.

Happy Hunting,

-DP

check out the Boardwalk. It's cheap, clean and right next to the Bellagio, just don't eat the food.

Gold Coast and Boardwalk both average over $100 a night for that weekend. As for Sahara, I don't really want to be bound by playing poker there for several hours and their other gaming is horrible. Cheaper to stay downtown :/

I guess I can try priceline when the date gets a bit closer.

I got a great price for MGM from this thread, Fat Wallet Travel. I don't know how you will fare for that particular weekend, but it's worth a shot.

FWIW, never book through a travel site. If you have any problems and need to cancel, you'll be stuck paying. Find your best price and call the hotel directly, they will match it and be much more accomodating if you need to cancel or change your reservation.

If you play poker, here's a link to a site that has info on how to qualify for reduced rates and comps through the leading Vegas poker rooms.

Good luck!

You are right. The stip is all very expensive that weekend. Even Excalibur is up over $200 on Saturday. I looked and there are not any major conventions going on or anything.
Wonder why so high that weekend??

It's a big gambling weekend b/c there is a holiday which many people have off, but no one has anything to do. President's Day is like this in Atlantic City...sick action lol.
