Loose-Stupid Plaer on Bubble

So I have a little trouble on the bubble when I really want to go into pushing mode but there's an incredibly stupid loose player at the table. Not stupid like calls pushes with 85o, but stupid will CALL with any ace, most kings, and all pairs, probably QJs and maybe JTs. The dumb player in this case also loved to minraise, and had called one hand I pushed earlier as a small stack when he had the clear pot odds (but of course didn't just push into me in the first place). Here's an example for all you who hate general question type posts. Sorry no HH, but party's emails haven't been getting to my account recently...

Blinds 150/300

HERO ~1000
BTN ~2000
SB ~2000
BB ~3000

HERO is dealt Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

HERO pushes...

Idiot described above is BB. SB andn BTN have also showed loose calling standards, but not quite like BB.

If he is the one likely to call, why push into him?

Surely picking on the other guys with the shorter stacks and more to lose would be beneficial?

Surely when you get down to it, the cards mean less than other factors do they not?

in this situation you want to avoid pushing into the bb with nothing. its hard to say what has happened up to this point but i would imagine you have missed some earlier push opportunities when you could have stolen from the less maniacal btn or sb. 150/300 is kind of too late to switch into "pushing mode."

When the blinds were smaller and you had more fold equity even if the bb was minraising everytime you were the bb or sb you needed to pick an Ax or something and push over the top of him.

these situations are tricky and can be highly annoying but you need to just pick a hand when you still have some fold equity and get your money in there. i would assume youvve been quite tight up til this point and that should tighten up their calling standards a littl.e

Are you guys really saying that hero shouldn't push here anyway? He's not going to have any FE after taking the blinds again, so I don't really see that he has a choice here.

Just push. You're the short stack, and you'll be BB next hand.

Just to keep the discussion from dieing already, I want to point out that the reason I was shortstacked. I had doubled earlier on some good hand which I don't remember right now. Maniac had been continually betting into my blinds and I'd been getting crap. During 100/200 (4 players then too) I'd pushed against his minraise with KQs, and he won with like A3o or something. I'd been big at the time and that knocked me down. I think this is two orbits later. I'd maintained my stack by stealing once from the button the previous round, but maniac pushed the previous two hands and I had crap cards.

Also a question:

If maniac is 3xBB raising me a lot, but will definitely call a push, I've been pushing only slightly looser hands then I would call a push from a decent bubble player. Should I loosen this considerably if he's clearly making this raise with all kings and maybe worse?

I am assuming this is an 11. I really hate this situation and it happens all too often at the 11s. This phenomenon occurs because all of the loose players are gambling early and a few get lucky and build huge stacks. They do not know of the gap concept and their calling standards are quite loose. You DO have to win a showdown versus these players and you CANNOT wait to get blinded out. You have to push this. This push would be way more +EV at higher stakes. Also, players at the 11s know nothing about pot odds so they will repeatedly minraise. You have to treat this like a push 95% of the time because if you call you are pot commited, if you push they WILL call. There is nothing you can do really, a very frustrating situation which happens way less often at higher stakes.

Go look up stop and gos perhaps?

I do believe a couple of threads are around here somewhere which detail the play.
