1st place - $1,000,000 (including $25,000 WPT Championship Event buy-in)
2nd place -- $500,000
3rd - $250,000
4th - $170,000
5th - $130,000
6th - $105,000
7th - $80,000
8th - $55,000
9th - $35, 000
10th - $25,000
11th - 15th - $17,000
16th - 20th - $13,000
21st - 30th - $10,000
31st - 50th - $9,000
51st - 100th - $8,000
101st - 200th - $7,000

$6200 entry fee
600+ players

I actually do like the deep structure. 200 might be a little much, but paying 1/4 of the field sounds like a great idea. The 1M top prize is top heavy (as is almost every tourney, but what can you do. The organizers always want to be able to advertize a huge payday). My preference would be to redistribute about $400-500K from the top three spots to the remainder of the winners.

The depth of the structure would definitely encourage me to give this a shot next year, by trying some of the qualifying satellites.

I don't think it's too far off, but they could and probably should pay slightly less slots (maybe pay to 150) and up the payoff in the 11-40 range a bit.

Just my thoughts, I agree with your post in general.

I think it sucks. At the least get rid of the payouts for 101-200, I mean WTF is that? That would give another 700K to go to the people that deserve it (earned it). I don't even see why more than 75 or so need to be paid, but that's just me.

it sort of solves the problem of not allowing people to sell their packages. being able to go to aruba and take a shot, yet get 7k back for a moderate finish is appealing to the masses. for the people who made it deep, especially people like daryn, this structure sucks. however, this was a star studded event that is unlike most WPT events that the focus is poker and only poker. this was more of a destination package with a poker tourney tossed in.

I think the thought is that a large majority of entrants won their seat with a small-buy-in satellite win. So even $7000 is a nice win. All the money goes back into their UB accounts, unless they bought the seat with cash. It keeps the money and action at their website, which makes it more attractive for everybody.

I think for this event it is worth it. Look at what Granny said. The travel aspect cost a good $1000 minimum. UB ran several tournament entry only events, where the travel arrangements were the responsibility of the winner. Someone could of entered a $20 rebuy, and then was faced with a $1000+ bill of travel expenses. Granted, you should not be playing in the tournament to begin with unless you were unprepared to fork over that much money out of pocket.

For a tournament in Vegas, or readily accessible destination this would be silly. For something here that was more of a customer appreciation event by UB (with the dinner, the "home games" etc.) there was more involved than just a tournament.

This is an excellent point and would certainly explain the horribly flat structure. Daryn, did you get a check or did the money get credited to your UB account?

Anyway, I still don't like it, but there are some excellent points here regarding satellite winners, defraying travel expenses and the like, so I can certainly why UB would have structured it this way.

I'd be pretty unhappy about beating all but 9 players in a large field, and taking home just $25K while first place got a million and somebody that busted-out at 200th got $7k.
