I am staring right at the certificate of authenticity and its the wrong amount of numbers. I am trying to install microsoft word from the works 2000 suite.

Sounds like you're looking at a Windows certificate, not an Office key. If it's Office 2000, I think a string of all 1's works, if not it's a string of all 1's with a 2 on the end.

It says works certificate of authenticity. But its 20 numbers instead of 25 and contains the letters OEM. The string of ones didnt work.

Works is not Office.

Word is part of office. They don't make a separate version just to ship with Works.

Re: Microsoft Office cd key

No they didn't.

But clearly the Works serial number won't work. He needs the Office serial number.

Maybe he got "Microsoft Works Suite", which does include Microsoft Word 2000.
