Annan received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001 (shared it actually) for his efforts towards world peace. Here is a link to his Nobel lecture for all those interested. I believe he will continue to be a central and vital figure in the unfolding events regarding Iraq. For better or worse Annan is most certainly a man that believes in the UN; it's mission and potential as an organization to facillitate world peace and promote human rights. So far Annan has helped steer the UN to a point where Iraq has to destroy it's Al Samoud 2 missile program or most certainly face a forceful removal.
